Get Up!

I was laying in the strangest contorted position—cheek pressed against stone.
Not like nothing, but not quite like something either.
And I was tired… so tired.
I closed my eyes, and that’s when I heard the voice—

First, a whisper:
“Get up.”

Then a roar:
“GET. UP.”

Have you forgotten?
How could you forget WHAT you are—WHO you are—WHOSE you are?

And I got up.

I was always resilient before…
But that was the lowest point.
And now, every time I get up—it’s because of that moment.
That voice.

Sometimes I have to shout it—“GET UP!”
Sometimes it’s a quiet grunt—just “Up.”
Like a strongman psyching himself before the lift.

That moment became this poem.
A piece titled Get Up, from my book Whispers of Healing.

I wrote it for myself.

But today, I’m hoping it lifts you, too.

Someone left you
Someone lied to you
Someone betrayed you
Someone took advantage of you
Someone didn't believe in you
Someone abandoned you
Someone hates you
Someone used you
Someone abused you

I know it hurts
I know you're tired
You just want to rest.

You want to let go of the pain.
You want to let go of the suffering.
You want to let go of the injustice.
You want to let go of the oppression.
You want to let go of the FEAR.

But it's ALWAYS too soon to give up.

Get up.
You CAN.
"Can't" is an illusion.
"Can't" is the weapon of the enemy.
Get up.
When it hurts to even just breathe.
Get up.

Therefore we do not give up, but even if who we are outside is wasting away, , certainly who we are inside is being renewed day by day

Get up.

This tribulation is momentary and light,
Get up.
It works out for us a glory of surpassing greatness and is everlasting
Get up.
Keep your eyes, not on the things seen, but on the things unseen. For the things seen are temporary, but the things unseen are everlasting - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Get up.

You are hard pressed but not cramped beyond movement
Get up.
You are perplexed but not absolutely with no way out
Get up.
You are persecuted but not abandoned
Get up.
You are knocked down but not destroyed
Get up.
God gives you the power beyond what is normal - 2 Corinthians 4:7-9
I say to you….GET UP!

Get up.
When the world feels heavy
Get up.
When the shadows whisper lies
Get up.
When your heart is breaking and your spirit is aching
Get up.

Because you are worthy
Because you are strong
Because you are unstoppable
Because you are YOU.

GET UP!
